Spathe is currently searching for an Application Architect to join our team in the Tampa, FL area in support of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Mission!

 

Clearance: Ability to attain Secret Security Clearance (Must be US Citizen)

 

Job Description: 

Spathe is looking for an experienced, dedicated, and personable Application Architect to join our team in Tampa FL! In this position you will support the USSOCOM Mobile DevSecOps training team. You will travel to various Theater Special Operations Command (TSOC) and Component locations, both CONUS and OCONUS, as part of a team to directly train USSOCOM resources in modern software development, Cloud, and DevSecOps principles.  When not traveling, you will refine and support USSOCOM HQ Software Development, Cloud, and DevSecOps standards. In addition to evangelizing these changes within USSOCOM you will support Greenfield software development of new applications to support USSOCOM mission needs including but not limited to Azure, & AWS environments utilizing Docker Containers on a Kubernetes orchestrated PaaS.

 

The Application Architect will have expertise in design, deployment, and management of cloud resources, and be responsible for training others on the skills, approaches, and best practices to be an Application Architect. Cloud architects understand at a deep level the structure and distribution of computing resources in AWS, Azure, etc. The Architect will prioritize environment utilization to most efficiently allocate resources to the platform.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, oversight, and support for the cross-functional DevSecOps team to ensure operations meet technical standards and deliver on productivity and quality goals.
  • Helping customers architect scalable, highly available application solutions that leverage cloud services
  • Architecting and developing customer applications to be cloud optimized
  • Working as a technical leader along-side customer business, development, and infrastructure teams.
  • Train USSOCOM developers in Microservice based application Architecture for modernization of applications to containers on a Kubernetes orchestrated platform
  • Providing deep software development knowledge with respect to cloud architecture, design patterns and programming
  • Working as both an infrastructure and application development specialist
  • Utilize Agile software development and DevSecOps techniques
  • Implementing DevSecOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration, continuous development, and automated deployment
  • Designing cloud environment elements
  • Creating repeatable patterns for deployments
  • Facilitating collaboration between application owners and cloud engineers
  • Overseeing all security controls and key security concepts incorporated into the cloud architecture during all phases
  • Respond to product team needs in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in the architecture, design, implementation, and lead USSOCOM Application Development
  • Education of modern application architecture principles, best practices, and risk reduction strategies of being an Application Architect.
  • Provide guidance on security configurations and risk and compliance procedures (Identity Management, Network Configuration, Data Protection, Segregation of Duties), and train future Application Architects on these considerations.
  • Develop, Create, and train on working with Infrastructure Engineers to design, manage storage, compute efficiency, and optimization activities, including evaluating configuration of compute size, storage.
  • Create and train on solutions, and other service (network services, automation, and load balancing)
  • Coordinate with engineering and development teams to ensure continuity of solutions
  • Advise on best practices for improving operational processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related analytical field or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience (direct supervisory experience preferred)
  • Public contribution to an open source community or maintain a personal open source portfolio with a working CI/CD pipeline
  • Have a passion for agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Ability to prioritize usage to most efficiently allocate resources to maximize developer options while staying within budget.
  • Knowledge of networking, security groups and policy management in relation to cloud resources.
  • Strong “security first” mindset.
  • 2+ years of experience in strategy, design, implementation, and support of Applications running on IaaS and PaaS environments, specifically those leveraging OpenShift, PKS, or Kubernetes orchestration.
  • Hold a current cloud based architecture certification (RHCA, AWS CSA, CKA, CKAD) or 5+ years architecting and deploying multi-tiered applications
  • 2+ years in architecting security architectures across infrastructure and applications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working exclusively designing and implementing cloud native workloads
  • Proven ability to write programs using an object-oriented or functional programming language such as C#/.NET, Java, or Python
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, Perforce, SVN, TFS/VSTS/Azure DevOps).
  • Helping customers architect scalable, highly available application solutions that leverage cloud services
  • Demonstrable experience of microservices architecture, container technology and K8s based PaaS solutions (OpenShift, PKS, etc.) – Desired requirement
  • Deep understanding of the design, deployment, and management of cloud resources in numerous environments (AWS, Azure, etc.).  – Desired requirement

  • No more than 60% – 70%
