Here at Spathe Systems, we take pride in the fact that many of our employees are retired veterans who have represented our country with high honor and responsibility. We understand the challenges that come with transitioning from serving our country to entering the workforce. For veterans returning to civilian life, applying for jobs in today’s market can be intimidating. The skills learned during active duty may not easily transition to a resume. We are always looking to assist our fellow veterans, which is why Team Spathe has volunteered their efforts in sponsoring USSOCOM’s Warrior Care Program. Spathe Systems will offer a meaningful, hands-on approach to learning the disciplines that make a contract services company successful.

 

Meet Colonel Matthew McHale

COL McHale was born and raised in Washington, DC and commissioned to active duty through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in January 1993. He transitioned to Special Forces in 2000 and has deployed several times to Afghanistan and Iraq where he commanded troops in combat at the Team, Company, and Battalion levels. He has extensive experience with security cooperation, working with Special Operations Forces from Allied nations around the globe while he served in Special Operations Command Europe, the NATO Special Operations Headquarters, and as the Director of U.S. Special Operations Command’s International Division for the last 5 years. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne and Ranger Schools and the Special Forces Qualifications Course.

During his time with Spathe Systems, we provided COL McHale a structured program with exposure to various functional areas tailored to his interests. Our goal is to pinpoint our intern’s skill set so they feel properly prepared to enter the workforce and pursue their next career. We offer a flexible work schedule to accommodate transition activities while guaranteeing an internship period of up to 179 days.

UPDATE – 01/30/2020: Colonel Matthew McHale Reflects Highly on his time at SPATHE and the Warrior Care Internship Program

Getting off to a great start, Colonel Matthew McHale was more than willing to share his experience of the last few months with Spathe.

How was your overall experience with Spathe Systems?

“The overall experience with Spathe Systems exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend an internship for any service member who is transitioning to the civilian workforce.  There is no better way to see how you will fit in an organization than by working with the people who are the company. “

What are some key elements you’ve learned during your time here?

“I came to this internship curious to learn about the civilian sector and how my skills would translate to this environment.  I wanted to know the strategy behind how a company captures business from the government and how it organizes itself to meet the requirements of various contracts.  I found everyone at Spathe Systems incredibly generous with their time.  Spathe created an internship plan that exposed me to exactly what I was eager to learn.  Not only did I learn about the mechanisms of the business, but I was also submersed in the culture of success that permeates this company.  I was impressed by the overall dedication to supporting the military to solve its complex problems.  This dedication to mission accomplishment is very familiar to me.”

Do you think the experiences you’ve learned here will help your transition to the work force? 

“Absolutely.  I am more confident in what I have to offer any company.  While there are technical things I will need to learn for my future job – the variety of skills and experience I have developed during my years of service will be welcomed and valued in the civilian workspace.”
